And It Begins Again

Settled to some extents and I am starting to make candles again. I am somewhat excited and looking forward to the next steps in Betty's Only. There have been many changes in my life and it is time to be still. I have decided to really do something with this. Nothing beats a failure, but a try. So here it goes again. Over time, many people of been asking for candles, but I wasn't in a place to do anything.

The beginning of the month someone asked for 4 boxes of the 25 candles. Also, my mom box 30 of them @ $3. I didn't realize I had so many in stock. Still haven't come up with label ideas, but I have many match books. What I am thinking is to sell the candle with the match book and that can be the label. I am excited about making them again and I want to thank my friends that believe in my candle making! Let's see where I can take this. I will post pictures of the new candles.

Another thing about Betty's Only Candles is that they are mixed with a variety of fragrances. The hard part is keeping up with the mixture and coming up with a name for the candle.

Making candles, have been on and off for a few months. There is a market on Saturdays here in the city, been thinking about getting a table. Have to invest in self in order to make some cash. I don't know how much the tables cost, but I can find out. Below are the things I need to do in order to make this work.

Making a Come Back

Betty's Only has been around for a long time. This is something that truly brings me joy. To be honest, in many aspects of my life I don't see my worth. I love making candles, I love to see my clients faces light up when they smell them. Being able to create something that can be used in a variety of ways makes me feel good deep inside.

I haven't made candles for real in a long time. They create a type of peace for me. Kinda making things slow down and gives me something to focus on that is not drama and chaotic.

This has been a really hard time for me, a really huge transistion. During this time, I have been asked about the candles. I even found all of my equipment. At my job, someone mentioned to some students that I knew how to make them. They asked me to make them three for their assignment. I did, so this is how I started making candles again. Thank you Mrs. Claiborne! If you hadn't have done that, the fire wouldn't have been lit to get this thing going again!

I bought some wax. This is what is looks like, I took it outside and broke it up. Beside it are the swirling towere and extended tepee molds. Trying to get the side room organized for candle making. Not complaining cause at least I can make them now.

There is a plan that I thought of. Don't really know how to put it in action though. What I am thinking is let people know that I am selling candles for $2-$4. This will give me a chance to promote them. Something of a welcome back.

I also told myself that I would do a craft show within the next 6 months to a year. Have at least $2,000 in profits. Candles sets, baskets, floaters, burners, candle holders too. Everything candle. Have to get on it! This is my life and I have to live it!

Things work out so funny sometimes. Currently, I know longer work at Baker Middle School, now I am at Fort Middle. Mrs. Claiborne has bought candles from me before, she works with me. From time to time she would ask me about the candles. Of course, I would say I know I need to make some, give me a little time.

One day in my class, three girls came to me and asked if I could make them some candles. Before they asked, I was thinking how I could get the side room together where I could start back making them. The girls where doing an assignment for their ELA class and needed them. They wanted me to show them how to make them, but the time was too short. So, I made them four candles. They wanted them in Fort colors, but I didn't have any plain wax.

This is how I was forced to make candles. Things happen so strangely from time to time. I spent a little time in my side room and moved some things around. I can set up my hot plates and start making candles again. What I don't realize is this is a way for me to make a little extra money. As always, others see more in me than I do. That is sad!

When I get some money I am going to purchase some wax and make candles for the holidays. I have several jars that I will fill and sell them for $3.00 a piece, just to get rid of them.

I found some candles that are old so I decided to place them around the house. I am using them too. A friend said they make the house look more comfortable and warm. This is something that I love to do, just haven't been doing it.

Time hasn't permitted me to write here. Actually, I haven't made candles for a really long time. I just made some Friday evening. It was something to do. I have been thinking that it is time to stop playing and move forward with Betty's Only. This has been something that I have wanted to do, I just haven't put forth the time, money, and effort it takes to promote Betty's Only.

My domain name expired. It was reinstated the other day. I don't know how to log into my account to check my email. There is a vendor opportunity on Broadway, I think I am going to participate, I have sent an email to find out more information. I have been wanting to do an event, but I am scared. That is a mess. I know, but I just don't want to fail. How do I know if I will fail if I don't try? That is the main question.

Since I haven't been making candles for so long. I have decided to put some money toward Betty's Only. I need to get some more item to make Betty's Only better, it needs to be revamped. The website updated. I need to offer more types of candles, more items, and a variety of things. Promotion is the one thing that needs to be done.

I Really Don't Know What to Say

Betty's Only has not had anything going on. Remember I had some candles on consignment. I didn't sell any candles there. I removed them in January. The place was not air conditioned, some of them started to melt. I had to change my formula. In the house I have many candles, but don't know what to do with them. I know I can sell that but the question is where and how do I go about doing that? I thought about the beer commercial, I make them and someone else sells them. I am somewhat at wits end. Betty's Only is about to expire. It has been up for one year and I haven't sold anything on it. Now, that is sad!

There have been some suggestions. For instance, contact big name brands and send some samples. Or send a few samples out just to get them out. I really don't know what to do. I just started back making candles about a week ago, that was my first time since December. I know.

I have the business cards, but don't pass them out. Ok, what I will do is make a card to put on the candle. I think my packaging will be a burlap bag with ribbon and a name tag. I think that is what I will do. I need help! I can make money, but I just don't know what to do to get them out there to the public eye.

I am making candles now. I have done this time and time again. Don't get me wrong, I have been selling candles, but not like I should. I will make 10 candles of each and at that point sell them so kind of way. There are so many things that need to be done, just a matter of handling it.

I haven't been here in a while. Things have been moving so fast, I can hardly keep up. I started coaching basketball at my job. That has taken time away from Betty's Only. To be honest, I haven't even checked my mail. Some things that are still in the working: brochure, pictures, magazine, online candle sells.

Candles have been sold, overall about $250.00 worth for the Holiday Season. About $750.00 short of my goal. Something is better than nothing right?

I am off unil January 5. I need to sort out my to do list for my break!

I have been trying to send Tucan the information for the brochure and order form, but I keep running into problems. When I tried the first time she couldn't open up the information. The next few times the files where too large. I sent some information today, I just sent 3 pictures per email, this way the files wouldn't be too large and hopefully she will be able to open them. I need to look over what she emailed me in reference to what I need to send her. It is moving along and I am glad.

Overall, I think to build anything takes time and effort. I have the time and I am putting forth the effort.

There really hasn't been much going on with Betty's Only. My personal life has been on a go, that's probably why I haven't done much with the company. One thing I have accomplished is the labels for the candles. The fragrance is on the label now and I have my business cards. I have already reformatted the card to use front and back. Other than that it has been the same old thing. I am still working with Tucan to design my brochure and order form. I just paid for it last week, I haven't sent the necessary pictures to complete them. I apologize for the delay. I think that is what I will work on now. Life happens and then what?

Encouragement Comes from Where You Least Expect It

Today was somewhat a dramatic day. A car got stolen from my drive way with keys to the house on the key ring. Johnathan came over to change the locks for me. We hung out all day. He came into my candle room and started talking about how I have money just waiting to be made. That was crazy to me. I begin explaining that I have been making candles, but am not doing too well selling them. He said that the time now is to make candles and build inventory. I should have at least 1000 candles. At that point, the packaging should be right, and the process complete. Meaning, the website up and running (making sells), brochure, order form, professional photos, price list, and have done a couple of craft shows.

That entire conversation put much in perspective for me. I felt all warm and cozy inside. He also said that a beneficial part of my making candles is that I enjoy making them. I make them not to receive a profit. The profit will come later once the entire process is complete. I look forward to the growth and seeing how the company matures.

Thanks Johnathan, I really needed this encouragement and motivation. I am maturing and I am proud to be the owner and Creator of Betty's Only.

Betty's Only must have a professional image consisting of coordinating gift bags, labels, business cards, tissue paper, price list, order form, match books, packaging, and there are some other things too. Reorganizing and growth is a great process that takes time and precision.

As of today, Betty's Only has sold $27 + $10 + $5 + $10 + $55 is $107. $893 to go until $1000 before January 1, 2008. I can do it. It's just a matter of getting them out to the public.

I will have more information on how my process will actually go.

Good Afternoon All,

Today, I have a meeting with someone pertaining to the overall development of Betty's Only. I look forward to what she may have to tell me to better my business. Currently, I have match books, business cards (ordered via Office Max 7-10 turn around), and a price list. In the works, a brochure and order form. Slowly, planting seeds for future growth.

This weekend there is a craft fair, due to me having candles on consignment I can participate for free. That is good, I have never done anything like that and I always wanted too. I have to contact the lady for this endeavor.

I am positive about what Betty's Only has to offer. I give myself 1 year to have things up and going. Believe and achieve is what I feel today. Planting seeds sometimes takes a long time to see the growth. There has been and will be growth for my company. I will not promise that I will stay positive because that is human. I am human, but I feel the company has much to offer. The candles are different, fragrant, long lasting, and made with love from me. What seems to be funny is that people purchase them and don't use them. Use them because that is what they are for.

I am ok now, how long it will last I don't know. Looking forward to my business meeting and building my company. Blood, sweat and tears will bring Betty's Only to the forefront of this industry. Professionalism is what I am to achieve. Stick with me and watch the growth.

As for the brochure and order form, having serious computer issues at home. I will tried to resend the information, but it failed to send. Problems, if that doesn't work again, I will put more photos here so they can be copied and pasted on my information. I may seem scattered and I know that about myself, but overall, I am making moves in a positive way and supporting myself and my business.

I should be happy, no, but not me. I did sell $37.00 worth of candles. A friend came yesterday and wants to incorporate the candles in with her bath salts. A great idea. I gave her $55.00 worth, so all in all, I have sold $92.00 worth of candles. I am very proud of Betty's Only for this accomplishment. I also have to make a V-Lite Sampler for someone.

The reason I say I have ups and downs is I feel I could be doing so much better, but that depends on the outside influences. I see others using the Internet to promote and I have even fallen for the antics, but no support. I am learning right now and there is still more to learn, but what am I doing wrong? What can I do to better the situation? I know, continue to move forward and keep my head up. Betty's Only needs to have a web presence and I really honestly don't know what it takes to get that done. I interact in Twitter, I leave comments on other blogs, I push the website. Still no online purchases, no comments, except from people that I told to do it.

My bad, I know, I just needed to clear my chest, because this is too much. $908.00 before the end of the year. In the process of having a brochure designed and an order form. Those that get orders for me will get a gift. I think I have 3 people that will take out the forms for me. I know was bad today, but I really needed to get this off of my chest.

Betty's Only is doing big things. Sometimes there are spurts of people wanting to purchase candles. I have an order to fill. I said that $1000.00 before December 31 is what I am looking toward. Currently, I have sold $37.00 worth of Betty's Only candles. I have got to get with a wholesaler for candle handlers. That will another addition to the company. A friend called yesterday and asked about some candles for an event their doing at her church. I am making a price list. The meeting is later this evening. I will take some samples, price list, and and order form with me.

I contacted a company pertaining to gift bags for Betty's Only. I am also interested in packaging. Branding my company. This is a great beginning. The gift bags come in 250 per order. I may just start with the medium bags first. I think this will be a great addition to the company.

We are having our financial meeting Thursday. I am supposed to have candles for the group with labels and business cards. I have done that. So, I am ready for my presentation. The candles will be samples for them to use and give me feedback. I think I will do great.

Betty's Only will make $1000.00 before the end of 2008. The first 5 customers will receive a free gift. Help Betty's Only get out there to the public. Look for more to come. Little steps move to larger ones. I am up and going and will not stop. I may slow down a bit, but forever moving forward.

I don't know if I told you this, but if I did I am about to repeat it.

Betty's Only started back in Montgomery, AL while I was attending Alabama State University. I had a candle that I adored, but used up. I thought that I could remake the candle with the reminding wax and I was right. I went to a local craft store purchased a how to make candles book and materials and also some small jars. This is where is all began. I would make candles and take them to work with me, they would be all sold, or I would have orders to fill. The name comes in because I am Betty's only child. I have been doing this for more than 10 years, I believe. Slowly getting things in order and the time is now for things to get better.

www.bettysonly.blogspot.com started this summer. I thought that it would be interesting to have a blog about my candles and the road to promote and build. Etsy, I have been a member since December 07, but didn't start using it until April of this year. Having a web presence is interesting and rewarding all at the same time. I was just introduced to Twitter. I see many people interact and promote one another. Usint it I have learned much about this Internet thing.

Of course there are many things that need to take place for Betty's Only. Brochure is a must, it needs to be slick, professional, quirky, and to the point. I also need to get a business account so that it can stand alone. I feel determined and can see the future of Betty's Only. I am looking forward to the growth of my company. I do have any Etsy account. I don't have anything on it now because I needed to do some updates, but things are looking up.

Today when I get home I am going to do some updates if my computer is working right. I am still in the process of getting someone to design me a business card for the company. I actually gave out some business cards today. Maybe they will leave me a comment. I need all the support I can get.

I have been using Twitter. Check me out at www.twitter.com/bettysonly. For those of you that don't know it is a social networking site that only allows you to give short posts. You can make friends and they follow you. I have learned much. The internet is vast and I am willing to learn all it has to offer.

As for Betty's Only, www.knuckleheader.com created my logo for me. I used her when she was on Etsy. I love my header and she created two of them for a reasonable price. Now that Betty's Only is up and running I need a brochure to corlate with my logo. Everything needs to relate and Betty's Only needs a face. So, I went to www.etsy.com/knuckleheader and she was not active, but had the knuckleheader.com link on Etsy so I have sent an email to ask about creating a brochure that coincides with the logo. I have created my own business card. I may ask for her to design that too. There will be no problem getting them printed, I just need them designed. My plate is full during the day and sometimes I can not think straight. I need to focus and organize my daily life. I feel like I may need to take a break and just get my thoughts together. Slow down. I am looking forward to hearing from her. Hopefully she can assist me with this, because the time is now for Betty's Only to get out there.

Betty's Only is official. Can you believe it? I can't! I knew I wanted to have the website, but things kept getting in the way of Betty's Only getting up and running. I have many things that need to be taking care of, but they will get done. I can't feel bad about the things I am not able to do at the moment, but what I can do, I will do with the utmost authority. Time moves on and still it stays the same. I have a new found energy toward my Betty's Only. I will be honest, I have looked into a few things, but haven't made much effort to keep it moving. I did order and recieve the stearic to harden the wax in warmer environments. I haven't used it yet. There is an event here in the city that I am going to day, Christmas in the South. I have to get an inventory and lables for the candles. The labels will come tomorrow. I am looking forward to a professional look for the candles. With the website, the only thing needed is a domain name. That will get done tomorrow too. Keep it moving is what I plan to do.

Yesterday, I was with some friends and everyone is working on things they enjoy. This has helped me get things together. This is my idea and I need to work toward expanding my knowledge and skills. I will not let myself down.

It's Always One Thing After the Other

Greetings All, things here are pretty much the same. Still no candles, but maybe I will make some this weekend. Thanks to Keith Brown, whenever he comes in town he gets some candles from me. He really likes them and is very motivating for me. There are still so many things to do to get this ball rolling. Money, Time, Energy, Effort, and many other things tend to always be the issue. Sometimes there are successes, but others are falls.

Enough of the negative, my website is almost ready. The only thing that needs to be done is the attachment of my paypal account to the shopping cart and a domain name. So things are moving forward, just not at the rate in which I would like.

Haven't been to the consignment shop for the month either. That was somewhat of a let down seeing the candles melted like that. The presentation was awful. Well, I am still here and it will get better. Promise?

Reorganizing and Formulating

Hello all, things have been going well. Candles, I haven't been doing much of that due to doing other things. The candles that I have in the store, they have melted. Not all of them. Is it worth me paying $60.00 a month and hadn't sold anything and the candles are melting. The formula that I use is just paraffin, fragrance, and color. I also use something to make the scent throw further then it would. I have already ordered the additive. This will guarentee the stability of the candles for longivity. I purchased some fragrance too. I have been looking into a different holder for the V-Lite Sampler. Instead of 24, there would only be 12 in a clear container. Tamara has done my web page. There are a few things that I need to do. Register a domain name, I already have a paypal account. I think my website will be ready in a few days. I also need to purchase some candle holders. I don't want anything fancy, but something modern and sleek. Someone bought some candles from me the other day. He has bought some before. He told me that he lit one on the sofa. That didn't go over to well. If I have a line of candle accessories that would come in handy.

Today, I went to Office Max to find out about lables for the candles. That would be a step up. I am looking forward to the future and what it has to bring. Betty's Only will be better. The candles will approve, the quality will grown, and it will be a know candle company. I look forward to working with the new materials and seeing the candles withstand heat. I am ready for a professional image.

What has been Going On

It has been almost a month since I have posted something about Betty's Only. Honestly, things are still the same. I have been getting orders for specific candles for various occasions, but no sales on Etsy. I haven't been to the consignment store due to being out of town. So the status of that endeavor I don't know. While out of town someone contacted me from Miami about putting some candles on consignment in his families liquor store. That seems to be very interesting. I am unaware of how he found out about my company. That really doesn't matter, just getting the word out about Betty's Only is what I want to do. I did respond to him, but now I am waiting to hear back. If I don't hear from him by Monday I will give him a call. With going out of town, I enjoyed myself to the max, but it did throw things off financially. I have to get it together.

As for Etsy, I haven't updated it in a while well over 2 months I think. I can say that I do have a problem and that is sticking to something anything. My attention span sometimes is as long as a grain of rice. For real, but at least I know that about myself.

Since I have the candles of consignment I have few candles available at home. I have to complete a couple of candles today and I will make more and update my Etsy. It is crazy, reading my previous posts. There are things I said I would do and haven't. All I can say about that is life happens. I must make the most out of it and do the best I can with what I am given. Still strive to achieve more.

More Candles on Consignment

I put more candles on consignment and none have sold. The place is a little warm and one of the candles melted a little. The set up was changed. The jars on the top and I organized the candles by category. The owner said that it has been slow lately, I guess this is due to the economy. I am just proud that I have candles on display for the public to see. Things will pick up, but when, I guess when I believe in myself and my company.

I haven't been here in a long time and it's not due to giving up, but not having anything exciting to post about and having strept throat. I am much better now, but before the sickness got really bad, I contacted a consignment store and there was going to be an opening soon (actually the middle of July). The owner said that if that person moved out sooner she would give me a call. Sooner ending up being the very next day. I was very exciting about being able to display my candles in a public arena. Now, I have candles for sale in the store. It costs $60.00 a month and the money for the store comes out of the sales. That is good, the contract is for 6 months, but if I am not doing well or interested anymore I can give her a months notice and terminate my contract. I haven't been up there or made any candles due to being sick. I am going to start making more candles tomorrow since I feel much better. That was a break through for me. I was so elated. Another step for Betty's Only.

How to Make a Log Candle

Materials Needed:
Wax, Mold, Double Burner, Wick, Wax Pourer
All items can be substitued with items you have in the home.

The double burner is used to melt the wax. The wax is in the pourer. Water is in the burner. The stove is turned on low. (I use a hotplate because it is somewhat messy.) The water boils and it slowly melts the wax that is in the pourer. When the wax has become liquid put the dye and fragrance in. Make sure you stir to combine the wax, dye, and fragrance.

Get a mold. It can be a long plastic container.

Next, I have pre-made wicks, place them in the container. You can use a little oil to rub on the mold so the candle will not stick when it has cooled.

When the wax has melted, you can add fragrance and color to the wax. Let the wax cool some. Now, pour the wax in the mold.

If you want you can add different layers of wax. I let the first layer cool then I added another layer. This is done to not let the wick faint or fall into the liquid wax. I added three layers of wax, each one a different color and fragrance.

This is the wax cooling within the mold. The wax actually cools from the outside in. You can see the wax gets lighter as it cools.

This is the final result.

These directions should help in making a candle. I really had fun with this assignment. I know I said I will make a movie and I will I just have to build up my confidence.

Someone told me today that I write like I talk. That's curious, but on a lighter note. I have a few candles to make for some friends. I have given candles to some for gifts. I quickly got another order from the gift giving. When I complete the orders for friends I will upload the photos.

How Can I Sale My Candles?

I have over $300 in candles and I don't know a quick way to sell them. Some I have had for a while and others where just made a few days ago. I am somewhat at wits end. I have uploaded more and more to Etsy, but still now orders. I have been added as others favorites on Etsy. This is a step in the right direction. The people that add me as their favorite will likely purchase from me.

I have been taking pictures and working on that. I have also been searching candle, candle blogs, and candle making websites. Some have not been updated for a few years and others are building daily. I think taht I am not good with this tag thing. On stumble upon someone else other then me liked one of my sites. That is great! I also stumbled candle sites. I looked around to see what they had to offer. Actually, I am learning much about the industry. It takes money to make money and I am almost there. Think of where I see myself and build toward that goal.

This journey will be fun. I forgot that I got a myspace page. What is that about?

If you can give me some ideas to sell my products to the public please let me know! Actually, I may need more candles and candle accessories. I thought about Christmas in July. Let's see about that!

The road to success seems to be hard and somewhat discouraging. I have been trying and honestly I have, but it seems to no reason. Still no sales on Etsy. The time has passed because I have complete all of the orders that I had to make. I take that back, I have to make some candles for a friends home. The colors are white, orange, and brown. I have to get on those ASAP. I want to sell to people that don't know me, don't get me wrong because selling candles to anyone is always great, but to sell to those that don't know you is a horse of a different color. I don't want to sound desperate, but I want this thing to take off and I know I have to put forth the effort, but what will it take? It seems daily I put forth an effort and it doesn't amount to anything. Something is all I ask for, that is all.

Yesterday, I was filmed making a candle. I thought that I didn't record me, the sound actually played once it was uploaded to the computer. The video was crazy, the materials that I use daily I couldn't recall the names of them. It made since, but I could see the mistakes on my face. Everyone is not for video and I think I may be one of those. What I will do is make a script and go through the motion of making a candle. I will upload that and then there will be a face to Betty's Only. I am somewhat apprehensive about that, but that is one of the necessary things. I may not be ready, but at least that we people can see that this is for real and not someone trying to get over on others. I am a young lady promoting her candle business. The funny thing about that is it has been in existence for a long time and now I am just getting in the swing of building and getting the name out to others.

What did I do Today?

I really didn't do much today, but I did make a small movie. How about that, but I don't know how to make the volume on the camera work. The movie really wasn't that good, but at least I made it. There isn't any sound on it and the camera says that it records with sound. I am not going to put it on this site because I need to work on making it better.

The bridal shower was today and the guests loved the favors. That makes me feel good. Someone else has a candle from my company. She said that she has had it for a long time and she hasn't used it. I did a favors for a baby shower a few years ago and people said they put them in their closet or just had them out and they still smell good. All of that let's me know that my products are decent enough to let the world know about them.

Sometimes I am apprehensive about my company, but other times, I have motivation and determination to get this thing going. I think that I sound like a broken record, but I am being honest. There are days when I know I can do anything that I put my mind too. But other days I don't want to do anything, but lay on the floor. That is not a good thing to get the company going. As I stated in a previous past, I am my worst enemy and I can not be afraid of success. It takes money to make money and I have to invest in myself.

Tomorrow, I will upload 5 candles to Etsy and see what happens. I will not give up. I have not been doing the things that I said, but at least I have made some progress. Right a little is better then none, right?

Things are Still Going

I know I haven't been here in a while and I know this is not a good way to get readers to my blog. I have been out of town for the last few days and haven't been working on anything, but my sanity. I have completed all of the candles. The candle burners for the bridal shower, my mother's candles, and the V-Lite Samplers for my friends grandmother and aunt. Altogether those candles were worth $86.00. Go Betty's Only! Still no sales on Etsy. I have purchased a showcase on Etsy for Father's Day. We will see how that goes. The candle that I had to mail out for the winner of Today's Woman Writing Community should be there soon. That was a great way for me to promote my business. Thank you Rose!

I made many promises to this site and honestly, I haven't lived up to all of them. I may just have to cancel the professional pictures due to financial issues. I will have to see about that.

Betty's Only A Candle Company has made much progress over the last few months and I owe it all to my motivation and determination to get this thing off to a good start. I will work on making a movie on how to create a candle. Something basic, but interesting to get my name out there. I also have not been posting on other sites either. I will get on that as soon as I finish writing. To be honest this is a great way to see the growth and what I haven't done, but needs to do to get this thing going.

What I will say about Betty's Only A Candle Company is that my clients really love the candles. Also, many come back for more. What I am told is the fragrance is strong enough not to light them. Many people give them as gifts, favors, or use them as decoration. All of the candles I use them to see how they will work and to make sure that they work right before I actually sale them to anyone.

I will do better, not for you, but for Betty's Only A Candle Company, because if I don't push no one else will.

When I got up this morning I started working on the Candle Burners for the bridal shower. I finished the 2 Burning Hearts mom. I am finished with 1 V-Lite Sampler for my friends grandmother. I have 2 more V-Lite Samplers to finish for tomorrow. I have been reading http://www.problogger.com/ and it has many tips on how to promote my blog and get it the publicity that I want it to have.

Also today, I met with another professional photographer and I have an appointment for Wednesday at 10:00 am to photograph the candles. He wants to take pictures of me too to put on the brochure. I understand that, but I didn't want to have my face out there, but I guess I have no choice. Will I do, but I know that will make the product more personal if my clientele puts a face with the procuct. I am ready for my photo opportunity. When he photographs the candles they will be in a setting that will make them look better than the do. The only thing that I am concerned with is making them look good for what they are worth.

Tomorrow, I am going out of town for a few days and need to complete all of the orders. In the morning I will hit the ground running.

I added more photos today too to this site and to http://www.bettysonly.etsy.com/. I still haven't had any more orders on Etsy, but 10 people have added me to their favorites. What I am going to do is purchase from shops on Etsy that haven't had any or few sales. I will support the beginning seller, if it wasn't for my uncle and friends I wouldn't have had a sell on Etsy at all. So, I understand beginners need a start too.

Work as Usual

There really are no differences today versus the other day. I have completed the 3 Shining Diamonds and 1 Colossal, total payment $21.00. I must complete moms 2 purple jasmine Burning Hearts. I have done the labels for the bridal shower, now I must put them on the favors. Like I stated previously, I will have a picture for you soon. The bridal shower favors will be done by Saturday. When they are complete I will give them to the bride to be. I am so greatful for the people that I have in my inner circle. They are my extended family. Ok, I will not get emotion.

I have been posting on several blogs daily, my goal is to post on 5 different blogs a day. I typed in Betty's Only on Google and it is now on the first page, but the last hit. That is better than nothing.

Yesterday, I met with a photographer to take some professional photos of my candles. Right now that photographer is a little too expensive for my company, but I will use that company later because he gave me some great tips for the company. I have a meeting tomorrow with another photographer and he is more in my price range. The professional pictures will allow me to upload better photos to Etsy and eventually create a catalog. The thing with my candles are that no 2 are alike. I have different styles that are unique. My next steps are to create skews for the different types and styles of candles. I will be back with photos of more candles. Until later. I know I haven't kept up with posting daily, but I am doing better. It is the summer and I know I can do more for my business.

Setting Weekly Goals

Today is another day as usual, but today I made a goal list only for this week. The goals that I have set pertaining to Betty's Only are to complete: the Candle Burners for Hervey's Bridal Shower, Colossal for one of my co-workers, 3 Shining Diamonds for another co-worker, 3 V-Lite Samplers for a friend, and the 2 Burning Hearts for my mother. I have been working on the Candle Burners for a while, I had to get the specific colors correct, now I have to put them in the tulle with the bow. The only other thing is I have to get with Hervey for her to choose the decoration for the labels. I will post the Candle Burners and the V-Lite Sampler once they are complete. Another goal is to post on at least 5 blogs a day. This should generate traffic to my blog (hopefully). I think this blog thing is cool. It allows me to release and write my true feelings about my business and anyone anywhere can read it and post comments. This technology thing is really neat. I never thought I would be into this, but I am now and I will see where it takes me. Not just for my readers, but it archives my posts. This will allow me to actually see the journey as it moves forward. I bought 10 gift bags and tissue paper the other day, when I sell, I purchase more products for the business. My next purchase will be 3 new molds, 2 more fragrances, and prefabricated cotton wicks for the votives. I will defiantly take it slow, but do all I can to get my candles out to the general public. I did post on 5 blogs today, there are so many blogs available, its crazy. I hope to find my niche in this industry, no I take that back I will find my niche in this industry. I will not beat up myself with negative tones. I will be a success and Betty's Only will be known for its fabulous candles. In the next few days, I will make a movie of me creating candles. I just might put them on you tube. That is scary, but I will upload them to my blog. So, that is the latest in my journey, still no sells and Etsy.

Really Really Trying

Greetings All,

It has been a busy few days. I have learned more about blogs and web pages than I have ever known. I have been making candles for the bridal shower, custom made candles for clients, and 2 jasmine fragranced Burning Hearts for mom. So overall, I have been working on promoting my business and making candles all at the same time. I will do better and post new messages daily or at least every other day. I must keep it interesting.

First, I have added meta tags to my blog, added http://www.bettysonly.blogspot/ and http://www.bettysonly.etsy/ to search engines to be crawled in about 7 days. To be honest, I really don't know what all of this means. I take that back I do. When I search for Betty's Only on the net I get no search results, well I do get search results, but it is nothing relevant to my company. I have looked on other blogs and candle sites to see what they are offering and I feel like no, I know I can compete. It is a matter of getting it out to the people. I can't solely depend on my family and friends to make this thing successful. IAll though, I am thankful for the support and interest. It is going to take me putting my all into promoting my business and making it interesting so that they will want to read more of my journey. I must make it worth your while and mine.

I have added this blog to so many search engines that it is ridiculous and I am not done. At some point, I got tired of creating a new user name and password, but if this is what it takes to make it, I will continue. What I want for Betty's Only is to be a world reknowned candle company, that is unlike any other. Betty's Only candles are for all people and can be given at all occasions. The candles that I make are unique and no two are alike (unless that's how you want them). I make them with love and for each individual person. When the candle is made I don't know who will chose it, it is for that owner to decide which candle is right for them at that particular moment. My candles are memorable, colorful, and fun. I would love for people to ask for the candles by the names they are given. For instance Shining Diamond, Picasso, Orb. These candles have been given names to represent them so the client can remember and ask for them by name.

Friday, I contacted several photographers to take professional photos of my candles. I have appointments Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss my plans with the pictures. I am really looking forward to this meeting. Having professional photos will give me a chance to compete in the industry. I have been taking my own photos and they look alright, but I know having a professional will allow the candles to be in specific settings and my clients can see what my candles are capable of. Also, have professional photos will give me an opportunity to develop a catalog, that is still in the making, but it will be done. First, the photos give Betty's Only its own face on the web. Betty's Only own website. I must find out what domain names are available, but this should be up and running before August 2008.

I have just been feeling anxious, excited, and nervous all at the same time. It seems like there is not enough time in the day. I have learned a lot about this industry and about myself. I have discovered that I can not stay focused for more than 2 weeks on any given project, but that all is about to change. I started Betty's Only not for the love of money, but for the love of making candles. To show people my product, have them enjoy the designs, colors, and fragrances just is an overstatement of emotions for me. I am modest in even saying that I make these candles. The people that have purchased my candles tell me how much they enjoy them. Some don't even use them, they are just for decoration. Others have sent them all over the United States as gifts. I am so thankful for the support and love that I have received over the years. It is funny how I haven't seen someone in a long time, but they will ask are you still making candles. Of course the answer is yes, but I am not using it to its full potential. There is so much more that I plan to do with this business. The possibilities are endless.

My next steps are to finish the bridal shower candles and the other candles. Work on doing some advertising on various sites. Continue to socialized on a variety of sites. Create and distribute business cards and matchbooks. I will also have to partner with a company to create packaging.

So much to do and all the time in the world to get it done. I will do it trust it.

I am Doing my Part

I didn't post yesterday because I was up late trying to figure out how to insert Adsense codes into my blog, but as you see the only thing that did work was the Google Search Engine. The big space at the top is supposed to be an ad, that has not generated yet or is not going to appear at all. Who knows? I have been on forums inquiring about the length of time it takes for the ads to appear and I can not seem to get a definite answer. I have found a few minutes to 48 hours. I will wait and see. I know with this site if the code is inserted wrong it will not let it go through. So again, I don't know if it is me, the ads, or what. I will just have to wait and see.

On a lighter note, I have been socializing with others via http://www.stumbleupon.com/ and other sites trying to see how it is done. I have found a variety of interesting sites. The layouts are cool, the ads are in place, and the people are coming. So now, I have to find my niche in this industry. Honestly, it is coming along and I know that anything that is worth having takes some time to achieve. I am just glad that I have finally picked up the ball to get this thing rolling. That push has finally come from that invisible hand. Or maybe my mind was not ready to handle the success that I am about to achieve. Whatever it maybe I am ready to get it done!

Orders have been coming left and right, but not via http://www.bettysonly.etsy.com/. That is alright because I am able to have a shop in July on http://www.indiefixx.com/ and waiting to find out if I am able to advertise with them too. Thanks Jen! As for Etsy, I am going to upload some more candles and send the word out via email. Like I stated before I am ready for the world to know about Betty's Only and how great the candles are. With Etsy, I have to get some professional photos or have an image that may not be the candle, but something that represents the candle. I don't know. Eventually, I want to be a featured seller on there home page, I think that is so cool. I will happen and sooner then I may think. Believe in myself and the company and it will happen.

I took some candles to work to show someone and I got 4 orders for custom made candles. Today, we had a visitor in the building and he bought candles from me as well. Socializing is the key and sometimes it is not what you know, but who you know.

At first, I was nervous about the blog and getting traffic to it, but people are slowly finding it and leaving comments. I thought I was never going to get a comment, but I did :). I am so thankful! I have spent time reading up on how to promote blogs and I think that I am slowly grasping the concept.

There are so many things that need to be done for this company. I bought gift bags and tissue paper today, because I have been going to my mother's house getting her bags and tissue paper. Next, a must update brochures, create labels for all candles, and start working on my own website. Those are just a few things that need to be done for this company. All things will eventually fall in place. I must continue to believe in myself and my worth.

Today was a Good Day!

First of all, I will say that I have been getting sells, but not via http://www.bettysonly.etsy.com/. People have been making verbal requests for specific candles for a variety of occasions. I am excited about that. Currently, I am making bridal shower gifts for my friend. I was asked today about making some floaters and a gift bag for a graduation party. Also, someone called and asked for 2 gifts bags for $15 a piece so things are exactly looking up for my candle business. I am so motivated and determined to make this thing work. I mean it has been 14 years in the making really. I am not going to be my worst enemy in this situation. Yesterday, I contacted Indie Fixx.com about ad space and having a shop on the site. She responded, now I am waiting to see if I can have a shop on the site for the month of June. I forgot that I have to make V-Lites for a friend of mines grandmother and aunt. So things are looking up. O ya, I did make a sale of 3 candles on Etsy, even if it was from my mom. She also made a request for 2 Burning Hearts, jasmine fragrance in purple. Ya!!!!!! Betty's Only is on a roll.

My next steps are to design my brochure, get a professional photographer, and get some bags with my logo on the front. Another thing that I need for my business is packaging that represents Betty's Only. Eventually, when I get my own website I will move toward candle accessories. I am on the move and very thankful for the support and love that I have received from everyone in my inner circle. These people believed in me when I was just playing around. Now is the time to take the ball rolling and make Betty's Only the success that I know it can be. I will no longer be my worst enemy, but be a supporter of myself.

I make candles because I enjoy the way it makes me feel, it is very relaxing. When people smell them, see them, and ask me to create candles for them, I am overjoyed. Making Betty's Only candles is a way to express myself and to give people something that they can enjoy and give to others. It is funny that many people do purchase them and never use them. I don't understand that, well, I take that back I do understand. The candle that they have from me is something special and they don't want to damage something that is special to them. For me, it is a candle that is to be burned because that is what it is made for. Overall, I am elated that they would even consider purchasing a candle from me whether it is for their homes, a gift, or for relaxation.

Another Day

Today is the same thing, no sells. But what I did do was send an inquiry to Indie Fixx.com to see what I could do to advertise and/ get a shop on the site. I am really determined to get this thing moving. Last night I stayed up trying to figure out how to get http://www.bettysonly.etsy.com/ and http://bettysonly.blogspot.com/ to the front of the search engine. I don't know how to do it. What I can say is that when I type in Betty's Only I get the expired domain name and the date is expired. Whoa is me! You know this thing can really get a person down, but I refuse to get done. I have to see this through. I also uploaded an image of a Picasso candle to Google Base to see if that helps with sales. We will see. This make day 2 of my blog and no hits, comments, negative motivation nothing. Maybe this will be a thing for me to just type out my feelings and what steps I take to get my candle business off the ground. I went to find out about putting the candles at the place I mentioned yesterday and I have to be there. I really don't have time to do that. I also forgot that I had a Tradekey account too. I started that a few years ago. I am tired and doing just a little when it comes to my candle sales. I want to do so much more. Also, yesterday at the book store there was an article of this women that is selling over 6 million dollars in candles yearly. Ok, first I need some displays, do some shows here and there, and put the word out about my product. One thing is for sure I am proud of the people that have supported me when I asked them to purchase a candle here and there to give me some sells. Thank you for trusting in my product and given me the push that I need. I think that really, I am my worst enemy. That really needs to change. Like I did with my Etsy site I am going to do this with my blog add it to my favorites on http://www.stumbleupon.com/. Maybe someone will stumble upon it and send me a post. I just need one post something so that I don't feel like such a loser. Also, I went to the flea market to check it out. There was someone selling candles, but they were single colored and in glasses. Nothing like what I design. I am not hating, it is good that they were taking a step to promote their product. Maybe I could learn something. How to promote my candle business

I have been a member of Etsy since December 2007, but did not start selling until April 2008. I am very motivated, but still do not know my way around. I have been looking at other candle sites on Etsy and do not know what I can do to sell more candles. My nitch is candles and what I see is that many sellers are selling other things then candles. I am very motivated and just want to get my candles out for the world to see. I have been doing this for a long time and realize that my personality is not as motivated and persistant as it should be. Today, I uploaded two more candles. A friend of mine said that I should put them in other settings so people can see them in another light. I did this now let's see the outcome. I have sold 9 items on the site, but know I have the potential to sell more. The thing about my candles is that they are unlike other candles. I make them to be creative and they do not follow specific guidelines. I enjoy making them because it is relaxing and people like them and enjoy the fragrances. Starting today, I will do something different to support my candle business. Everyday is a new day and it is up to me to make the best of it. To be honest, it disappointed me not to get sales and to be truthful the sales I did get were from people that knew me. I want to sell to people that like my candles, but also to people all over the world.

Another thing I have a friend that sells food and he suggested bringing some candles there to sell. I am ready, but I think that I am scared of success.
